What this guide covers
The B57 is BMW’s modular 3.0 diesel six. It replaced later N57 applications in G30, G11, G05 and related cars.
Single-turbo and multi-turbo versions share a family name but are not drop-in swaps without matching the car’s calibration and exhaust.
Fitment
Common cars: G30 530d, G11 730d, G05 X5 30d/40d, G01 X3 30d. Always confirm the suffix on the plate.
An N57 from an F10 does not replace a B57 in a G30 without a full conversion — buy the code for the chassis.
What the workshop checks
Inspect the timing chain area, turbo oil feed, and underside for oil. Compression notes should be even across cylinders.
Photographs should show the stamp, sump, and turbo layout for that unit.
How to choose a listing
Open the B57 shop, match the year and output, then send the VIN if the badge and the stamp could disagree.
Warranty
Eligible engines carry a warranty of up to 12 months after a correct installation by a workshop. The warranty covers eligible internal failure. It does not cover a mismatched fitment, a dry start, the wrong oil, or damage caused after the crate is opened.
Shipping
